El Batey

The social centre of Cabarete. Noisy, lively, and in the middle of everything.

$500 – $1,200/mo Digital nomads, social people, kite and surf enthusiasts who want to be in the action

El Batey is the main strip of Cabarete, the stretch of beachfront bars, restaurants, surf shops, and apartment buildings that most people think of when they picture Cabarete. It is the easiest place to meet people, the most convenient for beach access, and the most vibrant. It is also the noisiest. If you want to be in the centre of things, this is where you live.

Pros

  • Best location for meeting the expat and nomad community
  • Walking distance to beach, restaurants, and nightlife
  • Wide range of apartments at different price points
  • Most services and amenities within easy reach

Cons

  • Loud at night from bars and traffic on the main road
  • Can feel chaotic during high season
  • Prices higher than more residential areas nearby

Living in El Batey

El Batey is a stretch of about 1km along the beach. The main road runs parallel to the sea and is lined with restaurants, kite shops, surf schools, and bars. Behind the beachfront strip are quiet residential streets with apartment buildings popular with long-term expats.

Rent

Studios and one-bedrooms close to the beach run $400–$700/month. Larger apartments or beachfront properties go up to $1,000–$1,500. Expect to pay a premium for anything with a sea view or in a building with a pool.

The lifestyle

Life in El Batey centres around the beach, the water, and the social scene. Kite season (November to April) brings the most people and the most energy. Outside peak season it quiets considerably. The expat community is young, international, and active.
